The Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority (KRERA) on February 07, 2026, issued a circular regarding penalty for delay in quarterly updates.
The following has been stated:
As per rules, promoters of registered real estate projects are required to submit quarterly updates of their projects through the K-RERA web portal within 15 days from the end of each quarter. These updates must be filed by July 15 (Q1), October 15 (Q2), January 15 (Q3), and April 15 (Q4).
Earlier, the Authority had issued a circular dated March 09, 2020, prescribing delay fees for the late submission of quarterly updates. However, this circular was challenged by some promoters before the High Court of Karnataka. The High Court, in its order dated September 19, 2025, quashed the circular but clarified that the Authority may impose such fees or penalties through a procedure recognized by law. In view of this decision, K-RERA has now introduced a revised penalty mechanism for delay or non-submission of quarterly updates.
Accordingly, the Authority has decided to levy a penalty of ₹25,000 for each quarterly update not submitted or submitted late for the period starting from Quarter-2 of FY 2017-18 to Quarter-4 of FY 2024-25. Based on the number of quarters in each financial year, the total penalty may range from ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 per financial year for each project. The Authority has also provided a final opportunity to promoters to submit all pending quarterly updates without payment of penalty up to March 31, 2026. If promoters fail to comply within this period, they will be required to pay the applicable penalty while submitting the updates. Further, from April 01, 2026, the Authority will initiate recovery proceedings for such penalties in accordance with the provisions of the Act, Rules, and Regulations. The aforesaid Circular will come into effect from February 07, 2026.
